The Khoton and Khurgan Lakes are second largest and clearest of all lakes in Mongolia, the average depth is 26m the maximum depth is approximately 58 m.
The landscape around the lakes is stunning – with forests and snow-capped mountains. Khoton and Khurgan Lakes are home to the Grayling (Thymallus arcticus) and the Lenok (Brachymystax lenok).
The Khoton and Khurgan lakes are located in an intermountain tectonic depression in the northern portion of the Mongolian Altai region, and excellent sport fishing.

– Some recommendations: Summer months in Mongolia are from early June to mid September. Although the Mongolian summer is hot and dry with occasional rain, the temperature can fluctuate as much 20 degrees centigrade between day and night. So be prepared for all weather conditions
– What to bring: Binoculars, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, long underware for travel in the high mountains, comfortable footware, lip balm, sanitary hand wipes, sunglasses, prescription medicatious, (if needed), rain gear, flashlight.
– Transport: This expedition is supported by a jeep or minibus on the Altai Mountain road tracks.
– Stuff: A Mongolian-Russian, English, French speaking local guide will accompany the group at all times. A cook will follow, Plus driver.
– Meals: Our cook will prepare the meal, we pride ourselves in having cooks adapt with both western and Mongolian cooking on our trip. There are always vegetables available and we have no problem accommodating vegetarians.
– Overnights: This is a vehicle supported camping trip. Tents and mattresses will be provided for the camping nights. You need to bring your own sleeping bag.
